Kavin's new routine.

Hi all,
Kavin's
school reopened on 1st of June..
As usual,he wasn't happy. But we somehow coaxed him to go. Second day onwards he was happy to go as there were new friends to meet, new things to be learnt.

Kavin also got his life's first time-table :-) He's having 4 regular subjects-English, Hindi, Maths and EVS and 5 fun subjects-Music(modern) ,dance(classical) ,arts ,computers and games. He is also being taken to the Junior library twice a week where a teacher reads story-book to them.

On friday ,the school celebrated "WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY". Kavin got a chocolate (as a treat) for telling the classteacher which day is this:-) (courtesy--world-wide-web)
The teacher also stapled a "SAY NO TO PLASTICS" badge on students' uniforms. (as seen in the photo). She also requested them not to give her any flowers ever and told the kids that if they really cared about her then they should just say-"I LOVE YOU MAAM".
So sweet of her!

It only reminds me about Maulana Abdul Kalaam's words- " Only teachers and parents can bring a change to our society by educating the kids in the right direction. "

Anyways, this new routine has many cons also--
  • Kavin comes back home at 3 pm and is completely exhausted by that time.
  • I have to wake up at 6am to make 2 tiffin boxes(can see MIL grinning) :-O
  • Kavin is already getting friendlier with his new benchmate who happens to be a girl :-O
Hopefully he'll enjoy this academic year also(like the last two)
Bye......

Kavin's first achievement!

Hi everyone,
Two weeks back, Kavin had "KG talent week" in his school in which they were supposed to participate in events like elocution, shloka recitation and spellwell. In shloka recitation, Kavin told the shloka "Gurur Brahma,Gurur Vishnu..." but didn't win any prize and wasn't bothered about it(sportsman spirit;-) ).

And in the spell-well competition, he won the first prize:-) Got Dora books as a gift from his Appa (strange for a boy to like Dora though. I thought most of them liked spiderman, superman and Ben10) .
On such days (when he does something good or smart), his Appa proudly says "After all he's my son." On other days when he's cranky, whining and makes a scene, by default "he is your son."
What do you say??Must be happening to you too, I guess..

Children's Day

Hi All(after a long time though),
On 14th Nov. Kavin is having sports day at school. For UKG kids, they are having a doctor's race(?)
in which boy kids are supposed to run with their girl partners who carry a doll with them. After reaching a certain point they are supposed to check the doll(supposedly patient) and then come back.Whichever pair comes back first is the winner.

So for this 2 minute race what the parents are supposed to do?--Get a doctor's apron stitched, get a black pant, get a first aid box and a toy stethoscope.Too much.....

And for the sports day, children are in chaos.Their classteachers are going for the drill of older kids and poor kids are combined with other classes and maybe only one teacher is taking care of them.

Some kids(including Kavin) are feeling scared because there is too much pressure on the teachers to handle the kids,so they are being too strict on them.
So just for one day, kids(and their parents too) have to suffer so much.
Why can't they optimise and manage things better?

Who invented homework?

Hi All,
Sharpen the pencils, keep an eraser and a spare pencil handy and get all set to get your kid do homework.Sounds familiar?Welcome to the world of homework!
It takes a whole full day for me to make Kavin ready to do homework. His teacher gives one page of cursive alphabet to be written. He keeps on saying-"Jab Appa aayenge tab." In other words he just wants to delay it as much as possible. And when Appa comes,he makes Kavin sit with him and write. And after each alphabet Kavin wants to drink water, wants to eat apple, wants to check what I'm preparing for dinner, wants to do Shoo-Shoo,wants to get a better pencil,a better eraser and so on.

So temperature is always high at our home in the evening time(of course my cooking adds a few degrees to it) and patience runs low.

I would really like to meet the person who invented the concept of homework and I would want him to sit with Kavin just for a day while doing the homework.I'm sure in his next incarnation he won't even dare to think about re-inventing it......
