A few days back, Kavin asked me-"What's s**, Amma?" I was bewildered, looked at Kabi for some help on how to answer this strange query.
Kabi asked Kavin-"Where did you read this word?"
Kavin said-"In our train ticket from Bangalore to Chennai."
Thank God, I thought. Then we told him that this word refers to the gender of an individual, like he is a male, Appa is a male and Amma, Aththai and Paati are females. I think he understood it right.
But it left me wondering how we'd answer his questions when he learns about the third gender;-)
